I would like to know more about the self-service hours.

What can I do during the self-service hours?

Borrow, extend and return materials

What can I NOT do during the self-service hours?

Reserve a piano cell or other music room

I would like to know more about topping up the credit on my account or getting a refund.

How do I put credit on my library card or on a voucher?

You can do this at the machine with the word 'betalen' (pay here) above it (the Paystation).

Where can I find the Paystation?

On the ground floor, next to the revolving door.
You can also find a Paystation next to the lift on the second, fourth and fifth floors.

How does the Paystation work?

There are instructions hanging near the Paystation which explain how it works.

How do I get a refund on my voucher?

Refunds can only be provided via the Paystation on the left on the ground floor. Select the third option, scan the bar code and wait until your money is paid out. Amounts of more than €10 cannot be refunded here. Speak to a member of staff who can then help you with this.

I would like to know more about borrowing and reserving materials.

Where do I return my materials?

You can find the drop-off point on the ground floor, next to the lift.

How do I borrow materials?

There are lending points on every floor. You can find them to the left of the lift. The lending point on the ground floor is in the middle of the space, between the revolving door and the front desk. By the round red bench.

Can I borrow anything during the self-service hours?

No, during the self-service hours you can only borrow something with a valid library card. This means that you cannot borrow Interlibrary Loan items (IBL), games or sheet music from the Royal Conservatoire (KC).

For how long can I borrow the materials?

That depends on your type of membership. Most memberships entitle you to borrow up to 12 items at a time for a period of three weeks. The borrowing terms and conditions for all types of membership can be found at: bibliotheekdenhaag.nl

How does the lending point work?

Instructions are provided next to the lending point which explain how it works.

The lending scan shows: ‘beveiliging niet verwijderd’ (security device not removed). What should I do?

Follow the machine instructions. Should you be unable to remove the security device, then unfortunately you will not be able to borrow the item.

How can I reserve online?

Find your book.
Click on ‘reserveer’ (reserve).
Log on.
Select the collection location and reserve your book.

Reserving a book costs 50 cents. After receiving a message that your item is ready to collect you can pick up it from the bookshelf on the ground floor. The items are sorted by surname. Remember to put the book on your library card after collecting it.

How can I extend the lending period for my books?

You can extend the lending period if the material has not been reserved by anyone else. You can extend it via the website, in the library or by telephone. IBL and Music Web materials cannot be extended. You can extend the lending period no more than twice (2x).

I would like to know more about searching the library collection.

How can I find materials in the library?

Using a library computer go to the website of The Hague Library (Bibliotheek Den Haag) where you can find the collection. You can search the catalogue by entering a word or name in the search bar. The closest library computer can be found to the right of the lift on the ground floor.

I want to know more about library facilities.

Where can I find the computers?

On the ground floor: next to the escalator on the window side.
On the second floor: walk on from the escalator and you will see
them on one side.
On the fourth floor: at the back.
On the third floor: for visitors aged 18 and under.

How can I use the computers?

You can use the computers if you have a valid library card or with a voucher if you are not a library member. As a library member you can use a computer free of charge for one hour a day. Non-members pay a small fee (50 cents per 15 minutes). You can buy a voucher from the machine with the word ‘betalen’ (pay here) above it (the Paystation).

Where can I find the printers?

On the ground floor: next to the escalator.
On the second floor: walk on from the escalator and you will see
them to one side.
On the third, fourth and fifth floors.

Can I print from my telephone?

No, you cannot print from your telephone, only from a library computer.

Can I also scan?

No, you cannot scan.

How can I print documents?

You can send a print command by logging on to a public computer. The nearest public computers are on the ground floor next to the escalator on the widow side. There are also computers on the second floor: walk on from the escalator and you will see them to one side.

What do i need to be able to print?

To be able to print something you need to have credit on your library card or a voucher. You can buy a voucher at the Paystation. Put the credit for printing on the same voucher you used to log-on to the public computer.

Where can I find the digital piano?

The digital piano can be found on the fifth floor, next to the escalator on the window side.

Can I use the piano during the self-service hours?

Yes, you can use the piano independently. However, you do need headphones or earphones with a 3.5 mm jack for this.

Is there Wi-Fi in the library?

Yes, and it is free to use here.

How can I use the Wi-Fi in the library?

You have to sign up once with Publicroam for that. There are three ways to do this: using the Publicroam app, via the website or by text message.

How do I sign up for publicroam?

You can get a flyer with instructions at the desk to the left of the lift on the ground floor.

Where are the toilets?

On the first floor: to the right of the lift
On all other floors: the WCs can be found at the back of the building.
There is a children’s toilet/baby changing room on the third floor, to the left behind the lifts.

Where can I work and study?

There are dedicated spaces for work and study throughout the library. You may use any of them. Keep it quiet and keep the space clean and tidy, this makes it pleasant for everyone.

Can I use a practice room?

Yes. You can use one of the practice rooms provided you have reserved it in advance. You may practice until 20:45 hours. You can reserve a room with one of our staff between 10:00-18:00 hours.

Where can I get coffee and tea, etc? 

On the ground floor and on the fifth floor, there are cafés. Here you can buy coffee, tea, freshly baked treats, and sandwiches. The opening hours are Monday to Friday, from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Where is the Informatiepunt Digitale Overheid (IDO) information desk?

The IDO desk is on the second floor, to find it walk on from the escalator and you will see it to one side. Staff at the IDO desks are ready to arrange help for anyone who needs it, or if they know of someone in need of help. Please note that the desk is only open from 12:00-17:00 hours.
